There’s something about travelling that heightens your awareness of your surroundings. You notice things because, to your eyes, they are different. Large things like architectural styles through to the small details of everyday living. As a photographer I feel compelled to capture these impressions – the things that make up the feel and flavour of a place.
We’re super pleased that two web projects we supplied photography for have recently won awards for design excellence. An initiative of The Designers Institute of New Zealand, The Best Design Awards is the annual showcase of excellence in graphic, spatial, product and interactive design. Image Workshop was commissioned by digital agency NV Interactive to supply photography for two websites which have both recently received Bronze status at the Awards.
It’s that time of year when frocks are given centre stage to help with some pretty important fundraising efforts. That’s right, I’m talking about the month of Frocktober. The sister to next month’s Mo’vember, Frocktober’s activities primarily consist of women pledging to wear a frock every day in October to raise money for ovarian cancer research. Last year Frocktober-related fundraising efforts raised over $140,000 for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. Our friend Jarrod was keen to…
I love travel and the invigorating energy I get from exploring new places. Maybe that’s why I’ve lived in four different countries to date (Canada, the UK, New Zealand and now Australia). I’ve started an ongoing personal photography project dubbed “Melbourne Town,” to photograph the city and capture the things about it that I either love or find fascinating or are just plain ‘Melburnian’.
One the of things we love about living in Melbourne is that there’s ALWAYS something cool happening. Like a few weeks ago, when colourful elephant statues started popping up all over the city. This year is the 150th anniversary of Melbourne Zoo, and as part of the celebrations the zoo folk created a fun public art project, named “Mali in the City” after Mali, the first elephant calf ever born at Melbourne Zoo.
Exciting things are afoot at the Image Workshop! After a year of deliberation, investigation and consternation following the somewhat apocalyptic Christchurch earthquake of 22 February 2011, we’ve decided to shift our operations ‘across the ditch’ to the beautiful city of Melbourne, Australia.
Recently I was on site at a software company doing corporate headshots of their staff. Your typicial vanilla corporate headshot setup with a plain background, softbox up high, 100mm lens for head & shoulders shots, yadda yadda. One of the employees, Craig, had some pretty impressive tattoos on his arms. I’m a fan of nice ink so after doing his headshot I suggested we take a couple minutes to roll up his sleeves and grab…
We’re super excited and exchanging giddy high-fives today because Image Workshop has been featured on photography industry uber-website Fstoppers. Zoiks! We recently produced a cool behind- the-scenes video of a shoot we did with the Damaged Duo circus company. We entered our BTS video in the annual Fstoppers Behind-the-Scenes video contest (the contest deadline served as a timely kick-in-the-butt to actually get our video finished) – and it’s just been selected by the Fstoppers team…
We were on an Air New Zealand flight recently to spend Christmas Day at Brence’s brother’s house near Napier (Art Deco capital of the world and home to a surprisingly good aquarium) when we spotted some of our work in the inflight magazine.
Circo-arts performers Mim and Neisha – who go by the moniker The Damaged Duo – wanted new promo photos reflecting their motto “To entertain and infuriate”. Their work is character-driven, using facial expression to create a mood and add humor. The photos needed to show off their physical skills as well as capture facial expressions and their quirky sense of humour. We scouted a suitable warehouse that met technical requirements: a large indoor space with a minimum 7…
