is the collaboration of Melbourne photographers
Sharon Blance and Brence Coghill

We shoot commercial and editorial projects with a strong focus on people.
Simply put, we tell stories through pictures to help businesses and publications connect with their audiences.

We cover a wide range of subjects including the creative/performing arts & hospitality sectors, corporate and industrial, as well as travel pieces.

We’ve worked with all kinds of clients from small start-ups through to large corporates, designers and ad agencies.
We work as a team on most projects, though for smaller jobs we can also work independently.

Sharon Blance - Melbourne Photographer | Image Workshop

Sharon grew up in Canada and has been creating pictures for as long as she can remember.

Her first love was painting, but a school project to make a pinhole camera from a shoebox sparked a lifelong fascination with the captured image. Originally trained in fine arts, she also has a sharp eye for the finer points of design.

Sharon loves promotional portraiture, especially for all facets of “show biz” – from opera to vaudeville, ballet to drag.

She also lives to travel and relishes travel-based assignments and jobs where she gets to convey a sense of experience through imagery.

An aficionado of the classics, she’s a sucker for old black & white movies and Bugs Bunny cartoons.

Brence Coghill - Melbourne Photographer | Image Workshop

Brence had semi-nomadic parents and he grew up variously in England, South Africa and New Zealand.

He’s an adept photographer who also plays a key role in project concept development and logistics on our projects.

Brence possesses that enviable double threat of technical prowess and creative flair, with a particular interest in photographic lighting design, problem-solving and generally ‘making sh*t happen’.

Brence excels at figuring stuff out while remaining cool under pressure – making him a super useful guy to have on set.

A fan of Mad Men, whiskey and old time jazz, Brence rounds off his sophistication with the single unified theory of “Bacon Improves Everything.”

Nice things our clients say

“Sharon and Brence were an absolute pleasure to work with. I am based on the east coast of the U.S., and they made a photo assignment occurring in Australia a painless process both in terms of communication and execution. They came to the assignment having done their homework, mapping out lots of creative visual strategies and a plan for the assignment that took into consideration all our requests and needs but elevated it through their talent and energy.”

Rolaine OssmanAssistant Photo Editor, Nature Conservancy magazine

Robert McGregorCompliance Manager, Code Compliance Monitoring Committee

“Despite being given a challenging video project with an incredibly tight timeframe, Image Workshop delivered beyond my expectations. Taking on creative development of storyboards and scripts as well as directing, filming and producing, they made many suggestions that had a big positive impact on the finished product. I was truly impressed by their professional approach, positive energy and the smooth handling of some last minute issues. The videos generated huge buzz and the project was a massive success.”

Sally LewryPerformance Artist

“Image Workshop was quick to respond, consider our specific needs, and pre-empt any possible issues. It was a full schedule with a lot of different images to capture in one day, a large group of amateur models requiring concise direction, and scene changes. In particular Brence paid a lot of attention to making sure that the small details were technically correct. We’re really happy with the final result as the photos really capture the look and feel that our staff portray.”

Emily CarterCommunications & Marketing Manager, Pinnacle People
