Image Workshop photographer Sharon Blance absolutely loves all forms of show biz, and one of her favourite assignments is to create promo photography for performers of all kinds. So she was pretty delighted to work with dance and cabaret artist Sarah James – stage name Shortie Georgia – to create some fresh promo images.
Sarah is a dance champion in her home country New Zealand, where she also runs a dance school teaching 1920s-1940s styles. If you want to jazz up your 1920s Charleston then Sarah’s your girl! She’s recently branched out into circus/cabaret performance with silk fans and fire fans (SADLY she wasn’t able to bring her fire fans to the photo shoot. Next time, fingers crossed!)
We shot three looks: 1920s flapper, sultry blues dance, and burlesque with silk fans. Here’s some of our favourite images.
We wanted each look to have a distinctive feel so even though we shot the silk fans session in a plain white cyc wall we changed the look in post to give it a more dark and dramatic effect.
