Image Workshop photographer Sharon Blance is pleased to be featured in a brand new exhibition staged by the National Trust exploring the enduring legacy of Picnic at Hanging Rock. 40 years ago the film galvanised Australian cinema with its dreamy, surreal visual interpretation of an already-iconic mystery story. Picnic at Hanging Rock – both the book and film – are deeply etched on the Australian psyche and hold a special place in the cultural consciousness. Such is the enduring legacy of Picnic that the…
A day in the studio yielded a number of different promotional photography images for jazz chanteuse Georgia Brooks for promoting herself online and to jazz venues and talent bookers.
We recently blogged about a conceptual photoshoot for the experimental Melbourne Fringe Festival show Old Tech New Decks, where we created promo photos using a prop cello built out of crazy old retro technology. “But why just do stills photography,” we asked ourselves, “when we can also make a cool teaser VIDEO to promote the show!” So, once again working with a shoestring budget, we planned & executed a short motion project to make a fun trailer starring a few Old Tech items and the nostalgic…
We set out to build a replica cello out of bits and pieces of retro technology. I mean, pfffft, how hard could it be? Composer & performer Vanessa Nimmo asked us about creating promo photography for a Melbourne Fringe Festival show she was working on. Titled Old Tech, New Decks the performance was based around creating music using the nostalgic sounds of old technology: the screeching of a dial-up modem, the rhythmic clacking of typewriter keys, that distinctively ear-grating Nokia…
“Camping always gives me this primordial sense of ‘being home’. Sitting by the fire at night, looking up at the stars I get this uncanny sense of “this is all I truly need.” If there’s one thing that Image Workshop photographer Sharon Blance loves to do – it’s heading out into the wilderness. A fan of ‘the woods’ and wild places in general, we’re fortunate that living in Melbourne there’s no shortage of fantastic Australian wilderness…
Wowzers – 2015 has kicked off with a huge start for us, and we can’t believe that it’s March already and we’ve been slow to post up details about some of the cool stuff we’ve been up to. We’re stoked to have been involved in an advertising campaign run by VISA China over the summer to encourage Chinese tourists to come and experience Melbourne (using their VISA card, of course!) and discover the city’s various attractions, both ‘iconic’ and ‘off the beaten path’….
Brence was recently asked to create an editorial style hospitality portrait of Harriyadi Irawan, an award winning student from William Angliss Institute. For his efforts in the the Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management at William Angliss, Harriyadi won the Premier’s Award for International Education Student of the year and was also awarded International Student of the year in the Vocational Education and Training category. Harriyadi also works at Eureka 89, an upmarket restaurant serving fine food, wine and…
We recently got a call from William Angliss Institute, asking us to create a chef portrait for a last-minute marketing piece. As it turned out, there was a really tight timeframe which requiring a same day shoot and edit to meet the print deadline. Never shy of a challenge, Sharon was able to coordinate the shoot on location in one of the commercial kitchens onsite at the William Angliss Institute in central Melbourne, and turn around the required…
Meet Sam, Helper of People. He’s a Pharmacy Business Manager for AmCal as well as being a working paramedic – oh and he also did volunteer help during the Victorian bushfires last summer. Sharon was commisioned to shoot an editorial portrait of Sam for the October cover of PostScript magazine – here’s the final cover shot, plus an image that didn’t make the mag but was one of our faves :D
