“Camping always gives me this primordial sense of ‘being home’. Sitting by the fire at night, looking up at the stars I get this uncanny sense of “this is all I truly need.”

If there’s one thing that Image Workshop photographer Sharon Blance loves to do – it’s heading out into the wilderness. A fan of ‘the woods’ and wild places in general, we’re fortunate that living in Melbourne there’s no shortage of fantastic Australian wilderness close at hand, presenting abundant opportunities to explore what the Australian landscape has to offer.

And contrary to what folks overseas might picture when they think ‘Australian wilderness’, it’s not all red dirt and rocks. In fact, Sharon herself was happy to discover upon moving to Melbourne that Australia has its fair share of cool, green, woodsy places to discover.

Sharon was recently interviewed by luxe outdoor camping brand Homecamp about her experiences camping in and photographing in Australia’s Grampians National Park.

“If the sign says a walk will take an hour it’ll take me 3 hours to do because I get so engrossed in the photography, and because I like to stop and soak up the feel of a place.”

Whilst a lot of Sharon’s time is consumed doing commercial photography in Metro Melbourne, heading out into the Australian bush offers her an opportunity to slow down and soak up the environment. And, of course, take photos.
